Does Vinegar Cure BV?

Does Apple cider vinegar cure BV? There’s nothing new about Apple cider vinegar. It’s been used for hundreds of years and has stood the test of time not only as a popular cooking ingredient but also a natural cure for literally dozens of ailments (including bacterial vaginosis) and it is generally recognized as a very effective cure among naturopathic doctors and other health practitioners.

Of course, if you talk your doctor, it’s unlikely that he or she will recommend Apple cider vinegar as a BV treatment. In fact, most of the medical establishment do not recognize anything but traditional antibiotics for the treatment of BV. However, there’s a lot of recent research out there which proves that Apple cider vinegar is extremely good at treating not only bacterial vaginosis but even diabetes, obesity and other infections.

In terms of bacterial vaginosis, the reason that ACV works so well is that it helps to restore your vagina’s pH levels which, in turn, keep the gardnerella bacteria in check.  If you’re pH levels are not optimal, conditions will be absolutely ripe for the harmful bacteria to take over. In addition, Apple cider vinegar possesses certain antiseptic properties which help to kill the bacteria directly.

How Effective Is ACV in Treating BV?  Like any natural treatment, apple cider vinegar works better for some women than others. One woman that I heard from said that after nearly a year of suffering from chronic BV, she changed her diet and started drinking apple cider vinegar mixed with water every day, together with a probiotic supplement, and that her BV was completely gone. Thereafter, she kept incorporating ACV into her diet to prevent it from coming back.

Apple Cider Vinegar Douche.  In addition to consuming it orally, you can make an apple cider vinegar douche. In my view, this is the preferable method of taking ACV as it puts the healing properties of the vinegar directly to work on the affected area. To make your own ACV douche, just take a few tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar (found at any health food store) and add it to 2 litres or quarts of water.  Douche with this mixture twice a day using a regular douching kit which can be purchased at any drugstore.  Because ACV kills bacteria on contact, you should find that the vinegar gets rid of the smell after just a few applications.

Apple Cider Vinegar Tampon.  If you’d prefer not to douche at all, you can get similar benefits by soaking a tampon in the apple cider vinegar and water mixture and then inserting it into your vagina.  This is a great option at night because you can leave it in until the next morning and the ACV continues to work at killing the infection while you sleep!

ACV Bath For BV.  If you would prefer not to douche, you can also add Apple cider vinegar to your bath water. Just run a shallow bath and then add approximately half a cup of raw apple cider vinegar to the water. Then soak in water for 20 min. Repeat this treatments daily until your symptoms subside.  If you don’t want to fill up the whole tub you can also make an apple cider vinegar sitz bath.  Simply fill the sitz the bath and then add three tablespoons of ACV to the water and soak in it for 20 minutes.

In addition to using apple cider vinegar, try adding some probiotic supplements (natural “live culture” yogurt is best!) and take folic acid every day.  Together these things will help you finally get your BV under control!!
